Samsung or Sony? When 2014 MWC just began in the first day, many people had began talking about the two new "titans" in 2014 Android smart-phone market.Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 undoubtedly are the center of storm. And both of the high-end Android phone have been deliveried to the sales channel in all around the world. You may be wondering which phone is better. OK, let have a VS between Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2.
Hey,are you focusing on the style?Well, I want to say something firstly, there are no much big change of style in both of the two phones. We just can find some optimizations in details. Let's have a look to Samsung Galaxy S5. Because of the famours and the marketing hullabaloo, there are many rumors about the design of S5. Metal shell, water-proof, or other fantastic ideas. However, after release, many rumors have been proved that they are just guess.
The design of Samsung Galaxy S5 isn't much more different from the former flag-ships such as S4, S3 in Galaxy series. But we can learn from the specs that ,the size of Samsung Galaxy S5 become bigger and tinner. And, I don't know why Samsung make the rear of the shell have many holes, anti-skid? Anyway,I think Samsung have been addicted to this kind of design.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is slightly larger to accommodate a bigger battery cell and a screen which has expanded from 5-inches to 5.1-inches. And the coners seem to be harder than S4. The material of the shell is still plastic.
A key change is not a particularly visible one, unless you look at the microUSB port in the phone’s base, in which case you’ll notice it’s covered – that’s because the Galaxy S5 has IP67 water and dust resistance.
On the competitor's hand, Sony Xperia Z2 is also similar with its brother-Sony Xperia Z1. This is not a surprise, because of there is no rumors said Sony will re-design its Xperia gadget, even in the guides of One-Sony plan, this kind of design will continute.
In my opnion, Sony Xperia Z2 looks more beautiful than Galaxy S5 in design. At least, it is more elegant. Sony Xperia Z2 is featured with aluminium surround as Sony xperia Z1, and you can see it is slightly contoured corners and edge. On the whole, Z2 seems to be a optimized version of Z1, more thinner, longer but not bigger. Front and back panels are still both reinforced Dragontrail glass which means it should survive the occasional drop. Xperia Z2 still have 3-proof features, and the speakers have moved to the bottom. Which I love in this gadget is the glass design, it make me feel it is elegant in first glance, however, the glass design is also a fingerprint collecter.
Diplay screen-both are the bestSamsung Galaxy S5 is featured a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED screen with a full HD 1080p resolution at 430 pixels-per-inch (ppi). It is the standard specs of disoplay in Galaxy series high-end products. There is no doubt that, users can have a good experience in display of Samsung Galaxy S5.
Xperia Z2's screen is a bit bigger than S5 with a 5.2 inch made by IPS tech. Yes, you are not wrong, Sony finally use IPS screen for their own product. Of course, this IPS srceen is full HD 1080p setup (424ppi). With the help of software, you also can enjoy watching on this gadeget.
CPU, storage and batteryAs the high-end products, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 also have the best CPU and storage specs. They use the same model of processor-Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 801 quad-core (Krait 400), but some configurations are different. Galaxy S5 has the MSM8974-AC model with a 2.5GHz clockspeed, a tweaked GPU and 2GB of RAM, while the Xperia Z2 has a MSM8974-AB at 2.3GHz with 3GB of RAM. The powerful processor certainly can support many function and smoothness in the phone, but how about the whole experience are also based on the OS optimization.
In the case of storage, Sony’s stuck to the same 16GB of onboard storage with microSD support for cards up to 64GB – a sensible move as this is a nice combo. Samsung is offering 16GB and 32GB variants of the Galaxy S5, although we don’t yet know about availability of the 32GB model in the UK.In fact, 128GB Micro-SD card is availible now, but none of the Android phone can support this new tech now. I think it is good when a phone which can use 128GB Micro-SD card. Some UI such as TouchWiz in S5 have shared 7GB.
The Xperia Z2’s battery has been improved to 3,200mAh from the Z1’s 3,000mAh, which should provide plenty of juice, but still being unremovable. However, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 keep the feature of a removable cell, which is handy for hot-swaps. It’s been bumped up to 2,800mAh putting it nice and close to that 3,000mAh figure which seems to just about give a couple of days of use on one charge to most handsets fortunate enough to have these larger cells.
Camera configuration and other hardwares4K HD video is the main stream in movable digital gadget now. Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 have the 4K video capture.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is packed a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, LED flash. What is really cool additions are a Live HDR mode which lets your preview what a captured image will look like with HDR changes, and a Selective Focus which lets you re-select the focal point on an image after capture (Lytro style), and a 0.3-second focus speed for rapid multi-shot capture.
The Sony Xperia Z2’s camera is much the same as its predecessor with a 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor, Sony G-Lens, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash and BIONZ image processor, but now it’s been improved with 4K video recording and a slow-motion capture mode.
In connectivity, both of them will support 4G LTE and 3G HSPA+ mobile data, dual-band Wi-Fi (with Hotspot and Wi-Fi Direct), DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and MHL TV-Out.
Here, we need to pay more attention to Samsung Galaxy S5, which feature the fingerprint scanner under the Home key which can be used to unlock the phone and used for payments in conjunction with PayPal services. The full extent of these payment capabilities isn't yet known, but if PayPal is onboard expect to be able to buy quite a lot of stuff with your phone in the coming months. At the same time, on the back, there is sesor that use for built-in S-Health app which can monitor your heart rate if you’re trying to keep fit.
